Information for Students

New Students
Before you begin training, you should download and complete a Medical History Form and hand it to your instructor.

First Steps
1. There is a recommended list of basic techniques to be studied on the path from white belt to black belt here: List of Basic Techniques. Time code references are included for students with a copy of the requirements DVD.
2. The lineage of Anderson Bushikai follows back about 2 generations to Japanese Goju karate. We use many Japanese words in our training. You can find a list of common commands we use here: Japanese Commands.

Grading Requirements
There is a progression of skill and ability as you move up the ranks from 10th Kyu (White Belt) to 1st Kyu (Brown Belt Double Black Bar).  Tests of skill or ability (that is, gradings) are conducted quarterly to check students' progress towards their next rank.

The current list of grading requirements for each rank is here: Grading Requirements 9th Kyu to 1st Kyu.

To be eligible for a grading, you need to be nominated by your instructor.
